About the framework

The green home finance market seeks to support and facilitate activities that enable the acquisition or construction of green homes, or activities that lower the environmental impact of housing through reducing energy consumption, carbon emissions and material use.

In September 2020, as part of its built environment focus, the Green Finance Institute launched the Green Home Finance Principles (GHFPs), a framework of guidelines that promote integrity in the market by providing financial institutions with a consistent and transparent methodology for the allocation of finance towards retrofitting works in the UK’s domestic buildings.

Developed in collaboration with the Loan Market Association (LMA), the GHFPs are part of the portfolio of financial enablers and solutions developed by our Coalition for the Energy Efficiency of Buildings.
